Streaming platform HBO max announced the “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts special”. Announced on November 16 the cast and crew of the Harry Potter franchise are coming together for a reunion, with one notable exception – the author of the Harry potter book series JK Rowling. The release is said to feature the its main stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, last time seen together at the premiere of the last movie in the Harry Potter saga, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows part 2, in July 2011.

But there hasn’t been any mention of the person who created these iconic characters, author JK Rowling, who has been getting a lot of criticism for her views on transgender people

This anniversary special is said to be focused on the creation of the first film which was 2001 nearly 20 years ago, and the whole team including its central cast and crew.

For the past few years Rowling has been criticized for her views on transgender people. After her controversial tweet where she used the term “People who menstruate” instead of women. In the same tweet she said “I’m sure there used to be a word for these people, Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?” She continued with a thread discussing about biological sex.

‘If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction,’ she claimed. ‘If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased.

Rowling later clarified that she respects ‘every trans person’s rights to live any way that feels authentic and comfortable to them,’ However in September 2020 she was again accused of being transphobic when it was revealed the villain in her latest book ‘Troubled Blood’ is a male serial killer who dresses as a woman to slay his victims.

According to HBO Max the 20^th anniversary special will ‘tell an enchanting making-of story through all-new, in-depth interviews and cast conversations,’. Several talented casts of the Harry Potter movies are set to appear, including Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph Fiennes, Tom Felton, Gary Oldman, Imelda Staunton, Bonnie Wright and Jason Isaacs. The Harry Potter saga started with the release of Harry Potter And The Sorcerer’s Stone premiered on November 16, 2001 and the last movie in the series was Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows part 2, released in July 2011.

Since the Harry Potter saga ended the magical world of wizards has not slowed down as the third movie in the Fantastic Beasts Series, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is set to be released in spring 2022 whose story takes place in the Harry Potter universe.

Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts special is set to release on January 1, 2022. Beside this HBO Max will also streams all the eight movies of the franchise. After Friends: The Reunion this is set to be the biggest reunion special of the streaming platform.
