DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION / REQUIREMENTS:

Position title: Environment and Climate Change Adaptation Advisor-National Volunteer 

Type: National Volunteer

Partner: Multi partner 

Place: Baluwatar, Kathmandu

Length of posting: 3 months

Context:

CECI seeks to improve the social and economic well-being of the poorest, most disadvantaged people in communities in Africa, Asia and the Americas and volunteers are at the core of this work. Ensuring women and young women are empowered and fully play their role as agents of change for a sustainable, inclusive development is central to CECI’s work. 

In Nepal, CECI supports the economic empowerment of women and young women who are marginalized because of their identity (gender, caste, geography or sexual orientation). CECI volunteers work in collaboration with civil society organizations, small and medium sized businesses and municipal governments to develop the leadership of vulnerable populations so that they can access rewarding income-generating activities that are resilient to climate change. Volunteers support the strengthening of partners’ knowledge and skills, the optimization of their services, as well as their efforts to raise awareness of economic and environmental right.

Responsibilities: 

Identify, at the local, regional, and national levels, the leaders in the area of environment and climate change adaptation;

Create learning and training opportunities on environment and climate change adaptation for partners, volunteers, and the country team;

Develop case studies on best practices for integrating environmental management and climate change issues;

Integrate environmental and climate change adaptation issues in all activities;

Integrate gender equality in all activities with emphasis on the participation and representation of women and young women;

Make sure to respect, at all times, the organization’s guides, manuals, guidelines or instructions related to security and safety;

Write the reports required by the partner organization and the CECI program.

Qualifications:

  • Have a university degree in a relevant field (environment, natural sciences, geography, agronomy, international development).
  • Be a champion of the environment and climate change adaptation.
  • Experience in research, data, and information collection.  
  • Experience in participatory training methodologies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.  
  • Adaptability, flexibility, excellent teamwork skills and cultural sensitivity.
  • Experience in international development would be an asset.

Working conditions:

The volunteer will visit the partner organizations on a regular basis.
