When we make difficult decisions, deal with stress, and interact with others in our world, our emotional health plays a significant role. People who are mentally healthy are better able to engage in social activities, connect with others, and contribute to their communities. Mental health is important as it determines our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. When we have good emotional health, our moods improve and our self-esteem rises. Maintaining positive emotional health and treating any emotional health issues are critical for stabilizing constructive behaviors, emotions, and thoughts.
CAUSES OF MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS
A variety of factors influence emotional health over time. Individual psychological and biological factors such as emotional skills, substance use, and genetics can increase a person’s susceptibility to mental health problems. People are more likely to develop emotional health problems when they are exposed to unfavorable social, economic, physical, geopolitical, and environmental circumstances, such as poverty, violence, inequality, frustration, fear, loneliness, stress, use of alcohol or recreational drugs, and environmental deprivation.
